5th Annual Governance Workshop for Muskoka’s Charities and Nonprofits
Muskoka Community Foundation is hosting its 5th Annual Governance Workshop. We are pleased to bring back Don McCreesh to facilitate the workshop. Don is a prominent leader who has served for over 45 years in Canada’s charitable/nonprofit sector. He is has also been a board member of 13 different nonprofit organizations. He is the past Chair of the Board of Imagine Canada, where he led an initiative to bring governance, fundraising, accountability and management standards to Canada’s charitable sector.
We urge board Directors and organizational managers to take advantage of this opportunity and participate in this interactive learning session. The morning will include an introduction to good governance. The afternoon session will focus on the Canadian Revenue Agency compliance for registered charities along with best practices.

Morning Session: Introduction to Governance
Registration: 8:30 am
Workshop: 9:00 am – noon
Cost: $25.00 (refreshment break included)
Attendees will receive an overview of good governance, accountability, transparency and fiduciary responsibility. Don will also review the role of the Board and management, outline the duties of a Director and how to fulfill the role of a Board member, as well as discuss the legal duties and liabilities of Directors and Boards. These topics will provide a background on the purpose of Boards and identify key roles for Directors.
Afternoon Session: CRA Compliance & Best Practices
Registration: 1:00 pm
Workshop: 1:30 – 4:30 pm
Cost: $35.00 (refreshment break included
This session will review Canadian Revenue Agency compliance as it relates to charities and not-for-profits with a focus on the legal and fiscal requirements as well as your obligations under Canada’s Income Tax Act. In addition, Don will discuss best practices, tools and tips on the roles of the Board and management and the criteria important to the health of your organization.
Attend both sessions for $50.00. Lunch is not included.
